This is one of the last articles I wrote for The DeSoto County Tribune, a weekly newspaper based in Olive Branch, Mississippi. This particular article won second place for Best Feature Story from the Mississippi Press Association in 2001. The article happened to be published October 31, 2001. Unfortunately, I cannot completely reproduce the full article as it is copyrighted with The Tribune.

“It’s clear a lot of work went into getting these accounts together.”
Boo!
…they’re spooky and they could be right down the street from us

The Tribune
Things that go bump in the night. Walking specters and cold spots. Knocking sounds.
These images conjure up one thing – ghosts.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, some of DeSoto County’s ghost stories are sure to send a shiver up your spine this Halloween.
Take, for example, a pretty little house in the heart of Olive Branch. When Helen (locations and names of some of the storytellers have been changed to protect homeowners’ anonymity) and her husband built their house in what is now the older part of the city 30 years ago, they had no idea they would experience strange occurrences 15 years later.
